juliet in paris...
Paris...What can I say about Paris? It's the most beautiful city in the world at the same time as it's the ugliest. The Parisians are in the midst of having a love affair with their cell phones, that is when they are not busy have a love affair with themselves. Everyone smokes in Paris and they still all look beautiful. Even in the filth of the Metro, there is beauty, music everywhere, and art - art is everywhere you look. I found not one compassionate soul in Paris and everyone walks fast. Where are they all going? On Thursday, there was a strike of the Metro and bus workers and the Parisians almost treated it like a holiday. Because of the strike, everything - and I mean EVERYTHING - closed by 5pm, some even earlier. I had to walk everywhere. They were striking to get better pay and to keep their short work week. Isn't socialism great?
What can I say about Paris? After all that, I love Paris, and I hate Paris and I will go back. Remember the movie Apollo 13 and how at one point the crew lost contact with Houston for however long it was? That's how I felt in Paris - totally lost and out of contact. I'm in Munich now, a much friendlier city. It's cold and snowy. I took the night train from Paris last night because I just couldn't stay there one more night. I'm at a place called Easy Everything, and internet cafe chain all over Europe. I will be able to send pictures from here soon.
